"Video on trial "

The point to this activity is to find a really good video and a really bad video!
Because my next assignment, is making a music video in a group of 2 or 3 .
My group and I are very excited and can't wait ! I'll make sure to keep you guys posted !
So here is the link...
WARNING ! (Not suitable for younger audiences, rated PG. A feeling of motion sickness make occur upon completion of video! Irritation is guarantied )

Here is an example of a terrible video ! Sorry, Vanilla Ice, But what were you thinking ?
There are two things going on at one, In the foreground there is vanilla Ice and in the background the train, the tracks on the turning tables in constant motion. There is so much going on it's irritating. I found the tracks moving, making me feel slightly motion sick. There was a bunch of points in the video, where I even felt as if the camera was not held straight i.e at 2:29 the camera shakes quite a bit! I think another major problem is the continuity, the video just jumps from one place to another. The spots are not angled in interesting positions and the viewer may just feel the need to switch the channel or click on a different video.

The Single Ladies video, on the other hand is very aesthetically pleasing. It's simplicity is it's best quality. The spots of this video are all taken from a variety on angles. The transitions are clean and can be followed easily. The most important this is the continuity; it flows well and all the spots are the perfect length of time, so that the viewer doesn't get annoyed or die of boredom. My favorite part is the use of effective lighting, is really goes well with the dancing and helps create the mood.

  1. Thanks Rali
You're right about that horrible Vanilla Ice video: too much competing visual imagery.

In contrast, the simplicity of the set and lighting for Beyonce's video really seems to set off her choreography.

Will you try to use this kind of visual simplicity in your video?
